Format of the lesson:
All our stand up paddleboard lessons (group, private group and 1-1) occupy a two-hour window, and this window allows for the admin that needs to be done prior to heading out on the water. For a group lesson, we would expect a minimum of 90 minutes on the water and for a private/1-1 lesson we would expect around 110 minutes paddling! Either way, it’s a great amount of time to explore the harbour!

For group lessons, you will be with other members of the public and one or more instructors. Your instructor(s) will teach you and keep you safe. Please note that as the session is shared with other people, the pace will be dictated by the general pace of the group, as directed by the instructor. If this is a concern, then we would recommend booking a private lesson instead.

What to wear:
Wetsuits are generally best to wear for lessons, as you are likely to fall in and it means that you won’t get cold and miss-out on the fun! We can lend you wetsuits free of charge during our lessons, or you can bring your own, whatever your preference.

Footwear is generally not required during paddleboarding lessons as you get better grip on the board bare-foot. If you would prefer to wear some footwear, then secure shoes that won’t fall off like water shoes or wetsuit boots are best.

We will provide all safety equipment that is required, such as buoyancy aids.

Format of the lesson:
For our Estuary Explorer tour, expect a more gentle paddle in our sea kayaks, led by our experienced guides. For group tours, the pace will be dictated by the instructor based on the group’s ability, so if this is a concern then we would recommend a private tour.

Our Coastal Cadet tour is for adventurous beginners and more experienced sea kayakers. You will be heading out of the harbour, into potentially rough waters and in harsher conditions, so please make sure you are prepared for this! Wearing suitable clothing (as detailed below) is essential for this tour.

For all our Sea Kayaking experiences, please bear in mind that we will usually fill our tandem (double) kayaks first before using single kayaks – this might mean pairing up with a member of the public if your booking is an odd number. Your guide on the day will endeavour to match your preferences, but they will make a decision on the day based on the weather. We are unfortunately unable to confirm the kayak arrangements in advance as they are very much weather dependent.

What to wear:
During all our sea kayak activities, you are very unlikely to end up in the water, however you will get splashed and wet. We can provide waterproof dungaree trousers and smock tops to wear over suitable clothing, or alternatively we can provide wetsuits if you would prefer. You are welcome to wear your own wetsuits or waterproofs if you have your own.

If you’re intending on wearing a wetsuit, please come wearing swimmers so that you can get into your wetsuit nice and easily as we don’t have any changing facilities. If you’re intending to borrow a set of our waterproofs (or wear your own waterproofs), please ensure the clothes you are wearing underneath are also suitable; swimmers and a T-Shirt on sunny days and long trousers (no jeans), and a warm top (no wooly jumpers) on cooler days. If you’re not sure what to wear, get in touch with us.

For our estuary tours, footwear is generally not required as you will be sitting down and you won’t be getting out of your craft during the activity. If you would prefer to wear some footwear, then secure shoes that won’t fall off like water shoes or wetsuit boots are best.

During our coastal tours, we request that customers bring with them secure shoes as you will stop half-way through the tour to have a break and some of the stopping locations can be rocky. Examples of suitable secure footwear includes trainers (that you are happy to get wet), water shoes or wetsuit boots. Flip-flops, Crocs or wellies are generally unsuitable.

We will provide all safety equipment that is required, such as buoyancy aids.

What to expect:
We don’t require any previous experience for kayak hires, but for our SUP hires this is essential. If our staff feel that you don’t have suitable experience before you hit the water, they may request you book a lesson. Please check if in doubt. You will be advised a suitable route to take on your hire but will be left to fill the time at your own pace and head where you want to go. You will not have a guide with you.

Please bring with you a mobile phone (at least one per group). We will provide you with a waterproof phone case and we request that you bring a phone with you onto the water in case of difficulty. Please get in touch if you have any questions about this. Please note that whilst we make every effort to provide high-quality waterproof phone cases, bringing any device onto the water will always be at the customer’s own risk.

What to wear:
On cooler days or for more nervous paddlers, wetsuits are generally best to wear for SUP hires, as that way if you fall in you definitely won’t get cold. We can provide these at a cost of £6 or you can bring your own.

On sunnier days and for kayak hires, customers are generally happy wearing swimmers/shorts and a T-Shirt. On kayak hires you are unlikely to enter the water (but you might get a wet bottom!), and even for SUP (where there is a chance you might enter the water), you will be able to get yourself out of the water nice and quickly so if it’s sunny, you won’t get cold. If you’re not sure, our friendly team can always advise you on the day.

Footwear is generally not required during paddleboard or kayak hires as you get better grip on the board bare-foot. If you would prefer to wear some footwear, then secure shoes that won’t fall off like water shoes or wetsuit boots are best.

We will provide all safety equipment that is required, such as buoyancy aids.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL BOOKINGS

Please allow up to 45 minutes after the scheduled end of your session before you expect to return as it’s possible that there will be delays.
