Our RYA Windsurfing courses allow students to learn the fundamental skills of windsurfing and work towards their RYA Stage 1 and Stage 2 certificates. Taught as four half-days, we would expect students to obtain their Stage 1 after the first four days and then start working towards their Stage 2 certificate in a subsequent 4 half-days.

The RYA Stage 1 Windsurfing course is a fantastic introduction to windsurfing for kids – the RYA describe it as “All fun, no theory. Get on the water and discover windsurfing” – this embodies the course perfectly. The aim of the game is to get your kids loving a new sport and feel the thrill and satisfaction of windsurfing.

On the course, students will learn the basics of windsurfing, how to control the board and how to steer – with the aim being that at the end of the course students can sail to a chosen point on the water and return to their starting point afterwards. The course is mostly practical, with almost no theory – we want everyone to fall in love with the sport!

The RYA Stage 2 Windsurfing course follows on from Stage 1 and develops the foundational windsurfing knowledge taught previously. At the end of the course, students will have a better understanding of how windsurfing works and have better control of the board and sail.

On the course, students will learn an understanding of tacking and gybing and use these skills to make progress both upwind and downwind. This is one of the keys to safe, independent windsurfing and is incredibly satisfying once mastered. As with all our teaching, the course is mostly practical – we want this course to nurture a love with the sport!

Our course is structured over either three or four days, including supervision over lunch – we feel this gives us enough time to allow your kids to truly fall in love with the sport! We’ve decided to offer the 3 and 4 day option, as we know that it can sometimes be difficult to fit in activities around holiday dates and other commitments, so we didn’t want people to not be able to participate if they couldn’t make the final day of the course. On the final day, we do loads of fun and games and allow the students to really cement the knowledge they’ve learnt on days 1-3 – we’d recommend joining if you can as it’s often one of the highlights of the course, but you should still be able to pass the RYA course even if you do the 3-day option. If you have any questions, please do get in touch with us and we can happily help!

We provide all safety equipment, and can provide wetsuits if needed. Your students will need appropriate secure footwear (trainers that you’re happy to get wet or wetsuit shoes/boots) and plenty of water, suncream and lunch! More information will be sent once you’ve booked as part of the pre-course information booklet!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
